Who We Are
The JLC was formed in 2006, and brings together 37 member organisations
We represent the largest Jewish organisations in the UK, including synagogues, care organisations, education charities and regional representative councils.
From supporting the long term aims of the community through data led research to connecting our members to each other, government and public institutions relevant to their work: the JLC is there to make sure the UK Jewish community thrive. We work across the community regardless of religious, cultural, political affiliations or beliefs.
Our Mission
The JLC’s mission is to lead in building and sustaining a thriving Jewish community in the UK, together with partners.
Our Vision
The JLC has a vision of a strong, thriving, and engaged Jewish community in the United Kingdom for generations to come. A community that:
Feels well led, protected and safe

Embraces all its cultural and religious traditions and is engaged with Israel
Nurtures its youth, and cares for its infirm, older people, and those on the margins
Has a thriving charitable ecosystem that is innovative, impactful, and has high standards of governance and regulatory compliance
Has a charitable ecosystem staffed with an excellent cadre of professionals and supported by an engaged and committed lay leadership
Is efficient and well-funded
Our Strategy
Our 2026-2028 strategy is built around two pillars, strengthening our community and defending our community.
Strengthening our Community
We will build a vibrant, connected community, with our members and partners. We will bring people together to convene and collaborate in all areas, whether that is through our leadership development work for professional and lay leaders, through bringing together the top levels of communal leadership or through our work supporting the wider Jewish community with events and information. We will continue to build robust relationships with wider society, ensuring we have an engaged, informed and supportive government and that regional communities have tailored support.
Defending our Community
We will strive to ensure our community feels confident, safe and protected within the UK, acting as a visible advocate with government and wider civil society. We will hold bad actors to account, both publicly and legally and will work to ensure British organisations are welcoming spaces for Jews. We will create a structured approach to tackling future challenges that may affect our community with our members and partners.
